Zoom away with Rocket finger puppets!

I have 2 possible rhymes for my rockets:
Two space rockets want to go up to the sky!
Here is Zoom! and here is High.
They're ready to launch, start the countdown.
5, 4, 3, 2, 1  Blast off!
So long Zoom! Goodbye High!
or
Two space rockets on the launching pad.
One named Theresa and one named Thad!
Blast off, Theresa! Zoom away Thad!
Come back Theresa! and come back Thad!
Two space rockets on the launching pad.
One named Theresa and one named Thad!

Zooming off in our rocket is so much Fun with Friends at Storytime!

Astronauts in Space!

I love my new set of colorful astronauts! I used an adaptation of the song, One Elephant Went out to Play. Here's a link for the rhyme I used; Five Astronauts Went Up in Space.  I copied Amanda's astronaut on Mr. Keith's blogpost HereI love how they turned out!! They were tedious and halfway through I was tempted to stop at 5 but I'm so glad I did the ten. With a small group the kiddos can help put the astronauts on or take them off the board. They love that!  It's hard to tell in the pic but they have shiny glitter glue 'knobs' on their front panel. The red astronaut has a glitter felt face shield since I didn't have an alternate color to use for that.  These astronauts made storytime out-of-this-world Fun with Friends!

Space Friends!

We're winding down our Summer Reading space adventure but I wanted to share this Rhyme/Story flannelboard set.  I used some pieces I already had and added the rocket and made up a new story/rhyme that used them all!
Here's the link for Space Friends.

My rocket was inspired by Mr. Keith at felt-tastic Flannelboard Fun Time!! I had already posted about Astronaut Amy Here!  We have had so much Fun with Friends at Storytime this summer!

I See the Moon!

I love variations of the Little Mouse, Little Mouse hiding game. When I saw this one @sotomorrow I wanted to add it to my collection! I tweaked my pattern a little and since I have a circle diecut I just used it for my moon. I added some shiny glitter glue and we are all set for some fun! This will be a great time to use Laurie Berkner's wonderful song, 'Moon, Moon, Moon'. I sing this song as a lullaby when my grandsons sleepover!

Space; the Final Frontier!

Going boldly into outer space is super fun! Here's the five little astronauts that we used with this fun rhyme. (Don't remember where I found it) It's a take on 'Five elephants went out to play'.
One Little Astronaut
One little astronaut floating out from base,
Hooked to a hose, exploring space.
She thought it was such an amazing trick,
She called for another astronaut to join her quick!
Two....
Three...
Four...
Five little astronauts floating out from base.
Hooked to a hose, exploring space.
They thought it was such an amazing trick,
But, then their work was done and they went back quick!

My astronauts and rockets are diecuts. I hot glued a silver holograph sequin behind the opening for the helmet. LOL, One little girl with an eye for detail noticed that the yarn hose for the orange astronaut wasn't orange! Little things like that make storytime fun for me!! I do have several other posts about space and astronauts. Check them out!  Counting astronauts is a lot of Fun with Friends at Storytime! There are more great ideas on the Flannel Friday Roundup! Check out the wonderful resources on the Flannel Friday Pinterest Boards. There Was A Bold Lady That Wanted a Star

This week I did a 'Rocket' theme and wanted to use this really fun book! This book could work for several themes. You could use it with a transportation theme or stars or space. The pictures are detailed and a little bit small so I made my felt pieces big and used them as I read the book. I found this pattern set to download from The ALA website from the great resource book,  Storytime Magic.  I tweaked them a little and used the set this week and it was a BIG hit! I heard ooohhhs and aaahhhs when I put the jar with the star in it on the board. I had taken the star off the board and pretended to put it in my pocket. I had the jar piece sitting in my lap and so I just added it to the jar as I was putting it on the flannel board. This turned out better than I had hoped! That's always a win!! I started with the small glittered star in the top corner of the felt board then I lined the pieces up from top to bottom with the rocket and jar at the bottom.  You could just as easily line them up from bottom to top as it is in the book. I just made the pieces that she bought in her quest to get to the star that was so far...away. I made the shoes and skates big! I made my own pattern for the shoes and skates by looking at the pictures in the book. The bicycle was a little tricky! But, it turned out to be my favorite piece of the set. I made my own pattern for the big jar too. Can you tell I like for my pieces to be big? LOL!

I offered  a Home extension so that the kiddos could make a rocket-in-space picture to remember our fun rocket theme. The rockets are diecuts. I taped pieces of Christmas tinsel to the bottom as the 'fire' exhaust. The fireworks foam stickers were leftover from another activity. We also had some SRP stickers leftover that had a rocket on them that I handed out and the kiddos were so happy to get them!
We sang Laurie Berkner's really fun song, Rocketship Run. I heard one of the little boys singing it as we were checking out books after storytime. Ha! That's why I do what I do! I can't believe I get paid to have this much fun!
